SMART Tips for Unpacking

Filed under: General Moving Tips, Residential Moving Tips — SMARTBOX @ 9:43 am

At SMARTBOX, we want to make your entire moving experience as easy as possible, even after we have picked up your moving containers.

It’s easy to find lists and tips for moving, but it is just as important to have a plan for unpacking. Unpacking can be quite overwhelming. Think about it – you are already tired; you need a strategy. Here are a few tips for unpacking:

#1 – Have a plan. While packing, create a priority box for each room. These boxes will hold the most important items that should be opened first in each room. Mark these boxes clearly before loading them into your SMARTBOX.

#2 – List rooms in priority order. You should unpack the bedrooms and the kitchen first. Start in each room by opening your priority boxes.

#3 – Have trash and recycling stations set up around the house for easy disposal. Break down your cardboard boxes as you open them. It will make the clutter disappear faster.

#4 – Set daily goals for unpacking. Whether it is room by room, or just a certain number of boxes, you need to have a daily unpacking objective. Stick to it until everything is unpacked.

Stacking Up Against the Competition

Filed under: General, Long Distance Moving, Portable Storage Information — SMARTBOX @ 8:07 am

There are many options for moving available on the market, but only one SMART way to move.  SMARTBOX provides consumers moving and storage solutions. Here’s a quick list of how we compare to other moving companies:

SMARTBOX vs. Truck Rental Companies:
SMARTBOX is a great alternative for customers who don’t want the hassle of renting and driving a truck or moving items up and down a ramp. Since 80% of Americans move themselves, SMARTBOX’s on-site delivery and pick-up is the perfect solution.

SMARTBOX vs. Conventional Long Distance Movers:
Hiring a moving company for your long distance moving is very expensive and usually the cost is unknown up front. SMARTBOX’s long-distance moving service offers a guaranteed, fixed price on all moves.

SMARTBOX vs. Traditional Self-Storage:
Self storage can be a real hassle; it’s almost like having to move twice! SMARTBOX can offer storage solutions to entire metropolitan areas from storage centers that are flexible and convenient. Pack up your items once and let us move and store them for you.

SMARTBOX vs. Other Portable Storage Providers:
Our modular box design and competitive pricing allows SMARTBOX to provide more flexible storage and moving needs compared to the competition. Our unique delivery system gives customers greater flexibility when placing Smartboxes on their property.

Military Moving with SMARTBOX

SMARTBOX is proud to support our military with programs that are tailored to meet the special moving and storage demands that our armed services require.

The government will pay members of the military a predetermined rate for moving regardless of the actual expense. With some simple planning, it is possible to profit from your move when you can move your belongings more economically than the government can. The PERSONALLY PROCURRED MOVE PROGRAM (formerly called the DITY Program) allows any authorized service member to make transportation arrangements themselves, to ship their household belongings at government expense, and then be paid a percentage of the cost to the government if the government had actually made the arrangements for them.

At SMARTBOX we can handle any move—no matter if you’re headed across state to another base or relocating across the country or storing your belongings while overseas. SMARTBOX provides military movers with the flexibility that fits their schedule at the cost they can afford.

SMART Tips for Packing Your SMARTBOX

Filed under: General Moving Tips — SMARTBOX @ 8:52 am

We have learned a few lessons along the way when it comes to packing a SMARTBOX. Here are some tried and true solutions to maximizing the space in your SMARTBOX:

Plan your space before you start filling your SMARTBOX. Keep in mind that the box is going to be transported, so make sure everything is secure.

Use the inventory sheets to keep a complete accounting of items in your box.

Place heavy items on the bottom and lightweight items on top. The tighter you pack the box the more secure your belongings will be and you will get the most value out of each box.

Pack all items as tight as possible. Avoid leaving any open space where items can shift, and use D-rings on inside of the unit to tie larger or top heavy items to the wall.

Distribute weight evenly throughout the unit. Books can be very heavy so try to place them evenly across the bottom of the box.

Wrap fragile items individually in bubble wrap. When moving your dresser, consider stowing fragile items in the drawers.

Remove legs from tables with “re-moveable” legs.

Mattresses will fit through the door on their sides, load them first and prop them up so they stand upright. Try to pack bedrooms together to maximize your space. These are usually the boxes you need to unpack first.
