How To Organize A Moving Sale

Filed under: Portable Storage Information — SMARTBOX @ 11:04 am

“One person’s junk is another person’s treasure”

SMARTBOX knows a thing or two about moving. A moving sale is a great way to get rid of items you no longer want so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of moving them. Not only will it be easier to organize your new home without all this extra “stuff” but you will make a few extra bucks too.

Here are a few tips for a successful moving sale:

1. Get several families together and have a group sale. The bigger the sale, the more people will show up.

2. Pick a Saturday to have your sale; make sure to avoid holiday weekends. Give yourself time to get ready.

3. Get the help of your family members. Give people different jobs to help get ready and have several people on hand during the sale to help.

4. The best results occur when you publicize your sale. Place an ad in your local paper or on-line; pass out flyers and put up signs.

5. Use price stickers for your items; put them in an easy-to-see location. Group same priced merchandise together.

6. Have plenty of bags. Keep tissue paper or newspaper available to wrap breakable items.

7. Make sure to keep all sets together. Store the loose game pieces in a small bag and secure inside the box with tape.

8. Organize your items in groups such as sporting equipment and books. Hang clothing on a clothesline or rack for easy access; make sure sizes are clear.

9. Set up a cashier’s station with a cash box and plenty of change. Make sure you have a calculator, tape, scissors and markers.

10. Once the sale is over, donate the remaining items to charity.
